I did, and it was a stupid move.

It screws up the order of the songs in the main library for some shows, and some of the features are no longer available. It worked very well for me before for both burning discs and cataloging every show available with album covers/artwork.

You also can not sort by date added or many of the other categories. The sorting by song is also effectively gone.

I had a feeling I would regret it. Should have gone with that.

Hey Dead,

I upgraded mine over the weekend and found all my dead shows are still in Chronological order with the album artwork I put on it. Don't mean to contradict your statement and maybe I need to go hoe and carefully look at it but mine seems fine, in fact I just downloaded the 12/10/73 show from Charlotte on livedownloads and it came in fine to my iTunes right in between some of the other December 73 shows I have, but I will check this again tonight and get back to you. In fact I checked off new songs and shows to add to my iPod and that too worked fine with the upgrade! Have a good one

Can you access the sort features from the main library under 'Music'?

All I get is Songs, Albums, Artists Genres Radio Match. There is no option for 'date added' 'last played' etc. These features are still available under the sub categories. And yes, the shows are still in order by artist, date etc.

If I am missing something, I would love to know how to access the old features in that section.

OK, fucking moron here I guess. Y'all have no idea how long I spent trying to figure this out.

If you are in the main library under Music, you have to select 'Songs' in order to get all your sort options for everything. Even though everything shows up and can be generally sorted otherwise. I don't know why it is different than every other area, but it is.

Like Mando I kept record of how mine was set up but could not find a way to put the settings back in.

As for the tracks out of order, that will be a different deal. I went through this on the i-pod and had the option of playlists or cover-flow. Changing between those I was able to get the tracks right without a lot of re-typing.

I had to type the track name for every show from '65-75 since I got them from a source other than Archive. Ain't skeerd of typing.

I recently upgraded, just to see what the issue might be... everything looks normal to me. (I had to upgrade to keep other iOS devices synched)

If you're still missing some columns, try this: Navigate to View > View Options and try turning on whatever's missing....

(I had a screen shot, but can't find the button to attach it any more...wtf?)

I guess I misread your post. I do not sort my shows that way, as long as they come in with the right order of songs and the artwork I give it I am happy but I will check into what you are asking about and see if I can do those things and get back to you!

I get the same ad you dead, I don't see an option to sort by song. The closest thing to that is in the playlist section with recently added and played! Sorry man! I do like the new layout though and find it very easy to navigate since I never did what you would with your songs!

I haven't upgraded yet, but the screenshots I see don't suggest that you can't sort by song, date added, etc. Those tags may need to be un-hidden through preferences or something, but they haven't been removed from the audio files.

Not to be dumb, but what's "sorting by song"? There's really a feature that would put all MAMUs in one file? Yikes. I'd be afraid I couldn't get them back.

Thanks for the warning. I upgraded my iTunes once and spent a whole day fixing the mess that resulted. With the help of someone who knew what they were doing, too. And it still took a whole day.

I'm happy with the way it is now. But that's the story of my life. By the time I figure out a technology, someone changes it. Really, I've GOT iTunes. Why would I need an upgrade?

I find sorting by song to be a very effective way of maximizing space on my iPod. I'll sort all the Dead tunes I have by song then "uncheck" all the ones I'd skip over anyway in the car (LLR, every Brent tune, every Donna tune, Seastones, Space, etc.). Lets me cram many more shows onto the iPod.

I had the same phobia Althea, but in the main library in previous version you could sort by song and every one would come up alphabetically and in order by date as a sub category. Then you click 'album artist' and it would go right back. You could also sort by date added there. That meant that if you imported something and could not find it in your massive library, you could sort by date added and then go right to it and put the correct show date in so it would be accessible later.

It looks to me like all the sorting features are gone in the main music library, and the ones that are left are really not as effective. I don't really know how you can move backwards like this with software, but it seems to be the latest thing that all the kids are into.

I went to leave negative feedback for it, and the latest version you could leave feedback for was the previous one. George Orwell is laughing his ass off is all I know.

I hear you on your station in life. I just got my first smart phone last week and still have a Dell laptop that we use that we bought in 2000. Fortunately, I also have our previous Mac with the old version of i-tunes, so I may be able to go back.

Hung up waiting for a windy day
Kite on ice since the first of February
Mama keeps saying that the wind might blow
But standing here, I say I just don't know

New ones coming as the old ones go
Everything's moving here, but much too slow now
A little bit quicker and we might have time
To say "How do you do?" before we're left behind

The last time I upgraded iTunes, I ended up having 3 of every track on every album, and gapless playback was disabled.

Hadn't everyone who collects flacs already switched to foobar or Winamp anyway? Customization and organization are wonderful, plus they play nearly every codec imaginable.

I upgraded and had no issues other than my well documented pre-existing conditions.

I was also able to add fields that allowed me to sort the way I wanted to - including by song. Most of the carryover issues I had were in the way the songs were documented in the source file - I had to make a few mods to some of the song titles because of additional info that was added in a field title that obviously had some sort of higher prioroty regarding sorting than what I use.

Lots of words to say that I had no problems with the upgrade that weren't easily nuked.

Just upgraded yesterday. I don't have much insight except that it feels less intuitive (so far) and I'm not aware of any supposed advantages.

I didn't know I did it till it was too late.

This happens every time to me, and I also have 3 or 4 versions of every song too.

I love my imac but itunes is a pain in the @$$
